Tiger Woods 2000 AT&T Pro Am, Pebble Beach
Well...I gotta say this was a wild one. Tiger is seen here smiling on Saturday at the 2000 AT&T Pro Am at Pebble Beach. And it's not because he was in the lead (he wasn't). Weather was frequently a problem the AT&T Pro Am. This one was no different. Rains on Thursday pushed everything forward a day with the tournament concluding on Monday. And that was not the craziest thing about the weekend. Tiger had won five tournaments in a row leading in to the AT&T. Entering the final round Tiger trailed the leader, Matt Gogel, by five strokes and that streak looked like it was about to end.
On the final nine, Gogel led Tiger by seven shots with eight holes left before Woods, three groups ahead, begins his charge. The highlight of the day was Woods’ hole-out eagle from 97 yards at the par-4 15th hole. He then birdied the par-4 16th hole to tie Gogel. Woods birdied the par-5 18th to put the finishing touches on a 64 and take a one-shot lead, and he then headed to the media room to watch Gogel finish. Gogel left a birdie putt at the par-3 17th a few inches short before three-putting for bogey at the last to end up two shots back of Woods...now the winner of an incredible six PGA tournaments in a row.
This was his sixth straight win, tying Ben Hogan for the second-longest streak in PGA Tour history, and part of his dominant "Tiger Slam" year.
