Back in 1986 Witt Rowlett asked if I wanted to shoot some skaters at a ramp build in a field just east of the I5 in Oceanside. At the time I was a Senior Staff Photographer for Surfer Magazine. Witt owned a surf shop in my hometown of Carlsbad and I often shot his surf team riders and buddies. This time I was off to shoot one of his sponsored skaters...a young kid named Tony Hawk. Tony, along with fellow Bones Brigade riders Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero and Steve Caballero, were filming "The Search For Animal Chin." Stacy Peralta directed them over the next three days along with Craig Stecyk. Then the ramp was torn down. If I had known how big the skate culture was about to become and what a large part this film played in that growth, I probably would have shot for more than a couple of hours on just one day. Live and learn!

This shot is Tony flying over the channel with Caballero, McGill and Mountain looking on.

The print is offered in three different sizes with 1-2" borders around the image. The crops are approximate and allow for a border to be used in framing/mounting and for the title/signature. All prints will be titled, numbered and signed.
